Vibrance and Viability – The Future for Regions

About the Forum
The Rural Economies Centre of Excellence brings together regional universities, government agencies and research organisations in a first-of-its-kind research collaboration. This unique partnership invests in results that will advance regional economies across many crucial and contemporary topics. The RECoE Forum will share the directions and outcomes of this work.
As we experience times of fast change and complexity, the solutions that will take us forward are not necessarily obvious. The challenges are profound and must move beyond a one-size-fits-all approach. Holistic, fit-for-place answers need nuance and sophistication in how we create and locate pathways forward. For this reason, practical on-ground knowledge must be mixed with the experience of those who are sector experts, policy developers and researchers. This forum will give emphasis to fostering those conversations that share and explore diverse information to solve problems, capture opportunities, inform choices and facilitate collaboration. Bringing together thought leaders and decision makers, innovators and problem solvers we hope to provoke conversation and discussion towards initiatives that will deliver vibrance and viability to the regions.
This Forum recognises that every participant is a valued contributor. Speakers will each give a quite short address on the work or experience that they have with the primary objective of seeding conversations involving all participants in considering issues and implications relevant and arising. Everyone has something to contribute and this Forum will provide a space for rich sharing and fast uptake of information and knowledge.
There are three focal areas:
Changing Rural Economies
In this session we will explore new thinking achieving vibrance and viability post COVID, Qld recovery and adaptation with future economic models, structural adjustments that are needed for sustainable and inclusive rural economic development.
Environmental Markets
In this session we will focus on what will help with identification and management of opportunities and trends in emergent environmental markets.
Future Regional Workforce
In this session we focus on trends and disruptions to workforce and the impacts this has on rural industries. We will explore challenges and new workforce narratives and models for transitioning economies, policy and program coordination.
